Portview Celebrates Major Safety Milestone with 2 Million Hours Worked RIDDOR free
Leading fit-out specialist, Portview, has achieved another major milestone in the company’s history by exceeding over two million work hours without a reportable RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences) injury.
Despite working in a high-risk industry such as construction, Portview has surpassed over 650 days without a RIDDOR incident on any of its sites, from high-end department stores and multi-storey townhouses in Mayfair, to some of the world’s most luxurious hotels and premier league football stadiums.
The health and safety landmark follows the launch of Portview’s new quality programme – ProZero®, which works to enhance the health and well-being of employees and sub-contractors by empowering them to be more safety conscious through leadership and proactive involvement.
Awarded the OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety accreditation, Portview has been continually recognised for its ongoing dedication towards promoting staff well-being and safety in the workplace, through initiatives such as hosting a series of toolbox talks throughout the year to promote positive health and well-being standards on site, in addition to free annual health checks for staff.
Other initiatives include:
- Daily Activity Briefings to coordinate the day’s site activities and share safety critical information.
-
- The replacement of step ladders on site with safer alternatives such as podium steps and towers.
- The reporting of near misses and use of observation cards to encourage employees and subcontractors to note both safe and unsafe practices and take action to eliminate hazards.
- Suggestion boxes for employees to share their own ideas on how to make the workplace even safer and see it through.
- A Safety Champion Scheme were Managers award good practice by recognising those who go above and beyond what is expected to achieve optimum levels of safety.
Portview also has a comprehensive induction process that sets out clear expectations of employees, sub-contractors and visitors before they start work.
ProZero® Health and Safety Manager of Portview, Glenn Chambers commented:
“Two million hours is hugely significant and there’s not many companies that would achieve this target. Portview operate right across Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and have three different sets of legislation to comply with, so to achieve this milestone is absolutely amazing and is a testament to the team.
Sean McEvoy, Director of Portview, added:
“Our aim is to always ensure that our team is kept safe whilst carrying out their daily duties. I would like to thank everyone involved in achieving this landmark for their continual efforts in making our sites safe to work in and for paving the way in the fit-out industry.”
As part of the celebrations, Portview hired a vintage double decker bus – the H&S Express – to take employees on a guided tour of key locations in London where Portview has a high population of projects, including New Bond Street, Old Bond Street, Piccadilly, Kings Cross and Knightsbridge. Staff were then given an exclusive tour of Emirates Stadium, where Portview recently completed the new Dial Square lounge, before travelling back to Head office in Belfast.
